Our family is having a reunion this summer.  In preparation, I have been researching our family tree and have uncovered many treasures and truths.  One truth slapped me in the face the other day, as I realized, at a deep spiritual level, that my sisters and I were the elders of the family!!!  Imagine my shock since in my heart and mind I am not over 30 years of age…even though my body has seen 60+ years.  My memories and thoughts of family include my parents, and grandparents as though they were still with us.  And in a way, they are.  Their spirits invade our family gatherings as much as their big personalities did in the flesh.   Isn’t it wonderful that our spirits are ageless and eternal?  As I pondered my reflection, an older lady looked back.  The salt & pepper hair and lined face belied the high school cheerleader, college coed, blushing newlywed, and young mother hidden inside.  I suppose I could jump on the botox, anti-aging bandwagon and trim some years from my face…but that wouldn’t change the person I am – the spirit of my being.  So I will embrace my whole self and welcome wisdom and experience and hope that I will leave a lasting impression – an eternal blessing – on my family – those present and to come.

About doctoraquarius

As long as I can remember I have written - poems, observations, stories. Then graduate school, marriage, raising a family, and work occupied my life 100% of the time, and my writing for pleasure took a back seat. I'm back. Retirement from my professional life as a school psychologist, grown children, and an empty nest have freed me to follow my passion. My wonderful husband of nearly 40 years encourages me and my God sustains me.
